Wage subsidy available
Job Options BC is an eight week program sponsored by the Ministry of Social Development and designed to give job seekers practical, current experience and skills needed to participate in the labour market. During the first five weeks, participants are in the classroom gaining job search and life skills education as well as specific, relevant certificates. For the final three weeks, the participants are expected to use these skills in the workplace for a three week work placement.
The advantage to the employer is the wage subsidy available for this three week period, assisting the employer to give participants real, on-the-job skills and experience they need in their search for employment. This wage subsidy paid by NOEES (up to $5 per hour) must be matched 50/50 by the employer. NOEES pays the subsidy directly to the employer and the employer pays the participant the full wage including the mandatory employment related costs. All wages are taxable, insurable and pensionable and each worker must receive a T4 form. The work placement cannot displace an existing employee, fill a vacancy open due to a labour dispute or fill the position of a laid-off worker.
If you are interested in providing a work placement to a Job Options BC participant, please contact Carolyn Matyjanka at 250-545-0585. We look forward to working with local employers to provide the opportunities the participants need to gain employment.

Whatever happened to good customer service?
Customer service is the window through which customers view a business. Not surprisingly, poor service is one of the chief complaints of customers. It comes in all shapes and sizes and can sour a relationship to the point where the customer quietly moves on to obtain goods or services elsewhere.
Many customers will stick with a company which has only average products if only they are treated well and provided with effective service. The entire fast-food business, for example, has survived on the strength of the premise that fair-to-middling food can be sold to people who value service and speed. The ones which have been highly successful have demonstrated an understanding that customer service training is the key to consistently good customer service.
NOEES is the delivery organizaton for WorldHost Training Services. WorldHost is internationally recognized and teaches individuals to deliver “WOW” customer service. The next Customer Service Fundamentals workshop takes place May 27 from 9am to 4pm at NOEES. The cost is $85 (no tax). For more information, click here.
